Job Summary 

A Project Controls Estimator reports to a senior lead for their estimating group. They support and provide leadership for their respective estimates. This requires the ability to understand and articulate the comprehensive planning of estimates and their delivery. This individual quickly needs to become the subject matter expert and drive efficiency within the assigned groups. They need to articulate the project lifecycle and how it applies to estimates and controls.  

 

Key Responsibilities 

In this role, a worker will be counted on to analyze documents, specifications, proposals, addendums in preparation for the pricing of the project. They must develop complete estimates for large and often highly complex infrastructure jobs. They perform any estimate related communication with clients, including both verbal and written communication as the situation requires. They are counted on for reviewing the project site before the estimate preparation, as well as obtaining input from the Operations staff as appropriate.  

They also perform quantity take-off from construction drawings where applicable, and obtain quotes from suppliers and incorporate those detailed quotes into an estimate. They oversee the distribution of appropriate documentation appropriately upon award of the project and manage scope changes as required. They maintain files and correspondences on active and completed projects. They collaborate with the operations team to drive project success and learnings, as well as maintaining detailed files and correspondence on active and completed projects.  

 

Required Skills and Training 

Candidates qualified for this role and others like it would hold a four-year degree in construction management, engineering or hold a current trade certificate. Experience in planning and understanding fieldwork in a construction environment is essential. As is an understanding of estimating software such as Cleopatra and other software programs such as Microsoft Excel. Nuclear experience is often considered an asset, as is an understanding of AACEI best practices and membership in an AACEI chapter. In terms of soft skills, candidates should possess the ability to work closely and collaboratively with the project team, and hold excellent written and verbal communication skills.
